Honolulu This Summer: New Rooms, Familiar Chefs, and the July Calendar Worth Staying in Town For

There is a version of summer in Honolulu built entirely around Waikīkī: fireworks off Magic Island, a table someone else booked, valet at a hotel restaurant. This is not that summer. The interesting openings of 2026 have landed on Kapahulu, at Pier 38, inside a condominium tower on Queen Street, and on the ground floor of a new residential building on Keʻeaumoku. The July calendar has followed them inward, clustering around Mōʻiliʻili, Moanalua Gardens, and Kakaʻako. For anyone who already lives here, the short version is that you can eat and gather very well this summer without ever crossing into Waikīkī.

The story of Honolulu dining in 2026 is not new concepts arriving. It is established Honolulu chefs coming home, and choosing residential blocks over resort corridors when they do.
